» Optiphase Announces OPD-4000 Optical Phase Demodulator

Van Nuys, CA —December 15, 2003— Optiphase, Inc. announced today the availability of the OPD-4000 Optical Phase Demodulator instrument.  The OPD-4000 is a simple yet powerful instrument for measuring interferometric phase.  It is a high resolution, DSP based large angle optical phase demodulator with a large dynamic range.

The OPD-4000’s unique and patented digital process provides for simultaneous low noise and high dynamic range operation.  For anyone designing, developing or using a fiber-based interferometer, there is no better way to get faster, easier and more cost effective measurement results.

Compatible with a wide range of interferometric configurations, the OPD-4000 can be used with both internal and external interferometric modulation modes as well as bulk and fiber interferometers.  The OPD-4000 provides the sine wave voltage output drive for the interferometer’s modulator.  Through precise monitoring of the received optical signal, the OPD-4000 automatically determines the proper parameters for stabilizing modulation depth at pi radians and sampling phase for accurate quadrature signal extraction.  Optical phase is determined through inverse trigonometric functions.  Dynamic range is enhanced via fringe counting.  A modulation depth servo has been incorporated as well as an internal sampling phase servo.  A Polarization Diversity Receiver is also available for those needing to address polarization fading.  Systems are configurable for single or multi-channel applications up to 16 channels.

Optiphase’s PhaseViewä GUI software application makes set up and control quick and easy.   Additionally, PhaseViewä allows for real-time monitoring and data acquisition for each channel.  Residing on a  Windows 200/NT/XP PC, PhaseViewä connects to the OPD-4000 instrument via a standard USB 2.0 interface.

The OPD-4000 is designed for scientific and technical users conducting research and development, designing photonic components or sensor systems.  Outside the R & D arena, the OPD-4000 is a powerful productivity tool reducing labor and material costs in quality assurance testing, industrial process controls or service and repair operations.
