» Optiphase, Inc. Granted OCDR Patent
Van Nuys, CA - February 10, 2005 - Optiphase, Inc. announced today that it has been granted a patent by the United States Patent and Trademark Office for its All Fiber Autocorrelator technology for use in the Optical Coherence Domain Reflectometry [OCDR] field. Patent Number US 6,847,453 B2 was granted January 25, 2005.
The patent reflects a revolutionary method developed by Optiphase, Inc. for economically measuring physical properties of an object where the measurement path is at least semi-translucent to light.
Optiphase recently announced its AIF-01 Optical Sweep Engine product at the 2005 Photonics West / BiOS trade show in San Jose, CA, which incorporates the patented technology. The technology is instrumental in providing cost and functional breakthroughs for the use of near-infrared light in medical applications such as the diagnosis of disease in tissue and catheter guidance. “This breakthrough has accelerated the rate of adoption of OCDR technology in a variety of important medical uses” according to Jeff Bush, President.
Optiphase markets the AIF-01 as an Optical Module to medical device companies who in turn integrate the technology into their systems. In addition to a variety of medical uses currently under development, Optiphase’s innovations are also being applied to industrial applications such as thickness and boundary measurements in multi-layered structures and distances to a surface of both solids and liquids.
Founded in 1990, Optiphase, Inc. is a leading developer and manufacturer of interferometric fiber optic sensor solutions for a wide range of applications including Biomedical, Chemical, Industrial, Geophysical and Security industries. The company offers a complete line of fiber-optic Instruments and Assemblies for the scientific and technical community as well as major OEM partners.
