» Optiphase Announces HSR-3000 High Speed Reflectometer


Van Nuys, CA —January 23, 2004— Optiphase, Inc. announced today the availability of the HSR-3000 High Speed Reflectometer.  The Reflectometer instrument delivers precise non-contact on-line measurements of multi-layer materials and scattering media.  Packed with productivity features, the HSR-3000 is a powerful tool for research, production process control and QA thickness and/or particle size measurements.

The HSR-3000  directs light at the material or media surface[s] through a fiber probe and collects the reflection[s] or back-scattered light from each surface.  These return wave patterns are referenced to the probe tip, processed with an [interferometric] sweeping Autocorrelator and electronically converted to precise measurements of thickness or displacement that are displayed in the LightViewä screen.

With a standard sweep speed of 400 mm/sec,  [high speed option to 5 m/sec] the HSR-3000 significantly reduces measurement time and increases productivity.  With precision levels of   1 mm for discrete boundary materials, new levels of quality and control can be achieved, increasing the potential cost savings and ROI.

Improved reliability is attributed to the revolutionary all-fiber Autocorrelator based design which offers several key performance and productivity capabilities over more traditional designs.  These include: 1) No polarization adjustments required; 2) Standard SMF probe interface; and 3) Arbitrary probe lengths.  Additionally, by inserting a stable second coherent wavelength [Dual Wave model], the HSR-3000 attains a self-calibrating feature, eliminating the need for regularly scheduled service.

Optiphase’s Windows-based LightViewä software is an  effective graphical user interface that allows the user to control, monitor, gather and record real-time measurements.  With up to 6 user-defined indexes of refractions, multiple layer application accuracy is assured.  And the on-screen auto-peak location cursor function, the user can quickly and easily select boundary reflections.  Additionally, LightViewä automatically measures peak-to-peak distances for thickness.

The HSR-3000 Reflectometer is configurable in two models, the more accurate Dual Wave model, or the more economical Single Wave model.
